THE EXPLORER’S EXPLORER

Sofia Jin interviews Fernanda Maciel on all things Aconcagua.

We’re fortunate to have a host of inspiring athletes on The North Face team. They push us to be better, from the product level all the way to our commitment to the environment. But they don’t just inspire us. They inspire you, too. For most of us, that just means adding a few extra outdoor workouts to our routine, travelling to a new place or trying a new activity. But Sofia Jin, part of our Explorer Team, took this inspiration quite literally.

Sofia has never been one to back away from adventure. In fact, she actively seeks it out. She is inherently curious and bold and this boldness took her all the way to Argentina earlier this year to climb Aconcagua (6,962), the highest summit in South America.

So when we asked her to interview The North Face ultra-running athlete, Fernanda Maciel, she jumped at the chance. Not only because Fernanda is a bad ass, pushing her limits to close to impossible levels, but because in 2016 Fernanda set the fastest known time for a woman to summit Aconcagua and she did it in 22 hours and 52 minutes. It takes most people three weeks!

Below they talk about all things Aconcagua.
